The Illinois High School Association presents:
The 1995 Class 6A
Football Playoffs
Well, it's over. The last second has ticked off the clock at Hancock Staduim,
and mighty everyone's-#1 Naperville Central didn't win State. They lost 22-21
to the third-place team from their own conference, Wheaton-Warrenville South.
Congratulations to Coach John Thorne and the Tigers on their first Class 6A
title, and best wishes to Tim Lavery, Jim Tumilty, Rocky O'Shea, and most of the
rest of the Redhawk players in the aftermath of what was their dream season,
batted down in the south end zone.
This year the folks in Bloomington seeded
the 32 teams in 6A, with four seeds each #1-#8, then bracketed the teams
accordingly, putting one of each seed in each quarter-bracket. The eventual
champions drew a #6 seed, but they did only finish third in the DuPage Valley
Conference, having lost at home to both Naperville North and Naperville Central.

Same old IHSA rules for home team: the team that has hosted a game less
recently in the current playoffs is the home team; in case of a tie, the
higher-seeded team is the home team. (So Palatine was at
Wheaton-Warrenville South, but Sandburg hosted Schaumburg.)
