Dave Hsu was NNHS's 1994 valedictorian. In accomplishing that feat, he supported a stereotype about valedictorians and Asians which I heard five days later at Orientation on this campus and haven't heard since. (I really wonder where they came up with most of the crap they fed us at Orientation, and I don't mean the food.) Dave also won the award for highest GPA among male varsity athletes (not too hard if you are male, run cross-country and track, and are the valedictorian). Dave was on math team (he beat me out for senior captain in 1994 and was my two-person partner for the famous 105-year-old Maureen tiebreaker question), JETS and Scholastic Bowl, as well as doing not quite as much chemistry stuff as Umair. One fact about Dave that I think is important (although he'd likely rather I forgot it entirely) is that he was denied admission (he was waitlisted by one) by every college he applied to except MIT, where he applied early admission, and UIUC. I know so many people who couldn't get in where they wanted to, and I know a few others who couldn't stay where they got in. It's a reminder to me that Admissions offices don't always know exactly what they are doing. Dave's created more HTML than at which you can shake a stick (at least until Al gets up and running again), including a periodic table which is indexed by Yahoo!.
