Lauren was one of the twenty students in the first ever eighth-hour section of Enriched Written Communications. This was one of my three favorite classes at NNHS, not because of the material or the instructors (come on, now, it was an English class), but because of the students in it. It was one of those rare classes (at least rare for me) where I felt like every person in the class was my friend. Lauren, after she went to Purdue, was enough of a friend to be the first person I heard from after the Boilermakers won UIUC's 1994 Homecoming game and took the Cannon for three years (we haven't played them since). Gee, thanks, Lauren. I try to make it a point of dropping her a line whenever I see Purdue fail miserably at something (too bad I was in Seattle during the NCAA Men's Basketball tournament last year...).
